S. Dylan is writing a novel!

The Inlet of Swampton: A Collection

A fantastical fiction of epic proportions

about the intricate connections of lives over time.

Creatures thought to be lost to legend and folklore reside peacefully in a town not found on any map, until a blood spell between siblings gone amiss sends out a beacon, inviting all who hear: come and see.

The usual protective spells keeping the town to itself shatter when Casper's motorcycle rolls across the town limits without restriction. Now the modest town of Swampton has a permanent address: the twine of trees known as the Mark Twain National Forest.

Chaos can only follow.

This novel is still being written and the first draft has long since surpassed 100,000 words.

I didn't expect the first draft to be written overnight, but the process of writing Swampton has been a journey almost a year and a half in the making. The original story itself started as short stories (one for each of the main cast) connected over character interactions, but as the story grew I realized the limitations I was placing on the scope of the novel by confining myself to a structure better suited for a shorter story.

This is not a short story.

The characters cross years and centuries and millenniums and the very idea of time itself as they deal with the first hand fallout of their choices. I've always had a fascination with the connections and balances of the universe and have used my interests in the Occult world when shaping this story. The study of Tarot, the destruction of Atlantis, unconscious prophets, the myth of Pandora, the destruction of the Great Library of Alexander, numerology, the collective unconscious, and more, all coalesce into the dreadful spectacle that shapes and defines the Inlet of Swampton.

Soon, you too will be able to enjoy the wonderful mess of these characters lives, but for now all I can offer are snapshots. This story, even as my adoration and attention wanes and waxes, is very dear to me and will be finished, but for now all I can suggest is hopping on the e-mail subscription feed to this blog to keep up with any developments there may come.

As well I post occasional things over on Twitter and Instagram, some of those things are pertaining to The Inlet of Swampton and are marked with the tag: #inletofswampton.

See you at the other end of this marvelous journey.
